Delivering the extra measure of style and performance, this unforgettable timepiece presents a blend of daring and restraint. Powered by kinetic movement, this watch is water resistant up to 330 feet.Kinetic: A powerhouse in technological innovation
Like mechanical and quartz, Kinetic is a platform. Over the past 20 years, SEIKO has created on this platform a suite of Kinetic movements, each bringing unique features to the consumer.
It was at the 1986 Basel Fair that SEIKO unveiled its first Kinetic prototype. Introduced under the trial name of 'AGM', it was the first watch in the world to convert kinetic movement into electrical energy. It was the first step in a development that, 20 years later, has made Kinetic synonymous with environmental friendliness, high performance and long-lasting convenience to a generation of users worldwide. From the launch in 1988 of the first commercially available watch (then under the new name AGS) until today, over eight million Kinetic watches have been sold (as of 2007).
In 1998, Kinetic Auto Relay was released, extending the 'at-rest' operating period of the watch to a remarkable 4 years. 1999 saw the launch of the Ultimate Kinetic Chronograph, a masterpiece which fused the very best of SEIKO's mechanical and electronic watch making skills, and in 2003 another Kinetic Chronograph was launched. At Baselworld 2005, the Kinetic Perpetual made its first appearance, combining Kinetic convenience and longevity with a perpetual calendar, correct to the year 2100. In 2007, SEIKO's emotional technology Kinetic Direct Drive is introduced.

An Excellent Watch With One Small Criticism July 19, 2006 Robert Derenthal (California United States) 42 out of 44 found this review helpful
My wife commented to me on the attractiveness of this watch, something she has never done before as she doesn't own a watch, and has no interest in them. It is a beautiful timepiece.
What can you really say other than what is listed in the specifications. It works just fine, and keeps perfect time.
So, what is my small criticism? There is a lot of gold and white coloring on the face of the watch, and there is a lot of gold and white on the hands. The problem is that at certain times it is somewhat difficult to distinguish the hands from the background. If you have perfect eyesight this might not be a problem. My eyes are decidedly not perfect. Gone are the days when I can surreptitiously glance at my watch while listening to some boring conversationalist. I generally have to bring the watch to about a foot from my face to read the hands.
Still it is a great watch, and I feel compelled to give it a full five stars.
A Stunning Wonder! October 14, 2007 Syed A. Ahmad (New Jersey USA) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
If you've come this far and are reading this you're instincts are right, there is something about this watch that makes it stand out and sets it apart from the myriad silver and gold watches out there.
First of all, the picture does absolutely no justice to the watch, the pic you see on amazon is a simulated image, it doesn't capture it's real beauty and refined elegance, a picture can't do justice to it because of it's reflective nature.
Seiko has crafted a gem of a timepiece with this watch, with so many features at such a comparatively low price- it easily looks at least worth a couple grand, you will not find a quartz watch like it out there. I had reservations about the size of the dial and date window but it's perfect, the size and fit is perfect even on my small 7 inch wrists after removing a couple links (which btw was a very quick & simple DIY).
Seiko should be more vocal about the accuracy of this watch which is amazing, I've synchronized it with the atomic clock from the National Institute of Standards and Technology or NIST (www.time.gov) and to my amazement it's only lost a sec. in 2 weeks!
It has a sapphire crystal which is almost scratchproof, it can only be scratched by another mineral or sapphire, water resistant to 100m, stainless steel and titanium carbide coated, kinetic powered- it's charged by the normal motion of your wrist (powered by the world's smallest ultra- sonic motor), it can also be charged by gently shaking it in a 20 centimeter arc at 2 shakes per sec and you can feel the crystal oscillator spinning inside which is super cool. The most amazing feature about the watch is that goes into a sleep mode after approx. 24 hrs. of inactivity and comes back to life with the perfect time with just a couple of shakes!
Since it never needs a battery change there is little need to open the case which eliminates problems like dust or dirt getting into the mechanisms or damage to the water-resistant seal, coupled with Seiko's legendary reliability I can say with surety that it'll definitely outlast any other watch in your collection and possibly you too! haha
*Update 11/03/07* I've had it a month now and love it, the watch face was a little distracting with all the gold but I'm used to it now and it's a huge hit at the office.
This is my first ever Seiko and I can say with surety that I will be a Seiko guy for LIFE!
An amazing time piece! March 22, 2008 Charles R. Carroll 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I am quite the watch nut and own over 30. Brands I own include, Rolex, Seiko, Citizen, Bulova, Invicta, Hamilton and Timex. I own this watch and it was my 4th Seiko.
One, I have found regardless of price Seiko, with just a little exposure to natural sunlight will out lume every watch I have regardless of price. It does not make any difference at all which Seiko out of all I own, they all out lume everything else.
Fit and finish is superb. The watch runs flawlessly. The Kinetic movement not only means no battery change ever, but it also means, because of that you do not open the case back for that change. This will keep the water resistance of your watch optimum barring misuse while wearing. This is in fact a major plus. Any watch you own that you or the jeweler opens to change a battery, if not given a new gasket AND TESTED IN A PREASURE TANK is apt to have lost much or all it's resistance to water entering the watch!
Seiko customer service is tops. I could not find some replacement links for a Seiko bracelet on a discontinued model. The watch was going to my father-in-law and his wrist called for the bracelet to me made larger. An email to Seiko and they still stocked the links and sent a set of 3 replacement links fee! The only charge was $9 shipping and handling.
This is a five star time piece!
What a knockout! February 1, 2008 Eric B. (Pensacola, FL) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This watch simply MUST be seen in person to truly appreciate it's beauty. It's so striking that strangers will comment on how attractive it is. This watch replaces a Seiko Kinetic Titanium that I've had for about 10 years. By comparison the Coutura is quite heavy, but you soon get used to it's heft. I appreciate the enlarged date windows. I also had a bit of trouble telling what time it was at a quick glance because the hands are gold and get lost within everything going on in the dial, but I'm getting better as time goes on! Buyers of this watch will need to get the band adjusted at a jeweler--it's not a do-it-yourself job as another opinion states. You'll end up badly scratching the band if you attempt it yourself. My local jeweler made the adjustment free of charge (because they sell Seiko watches). The watch also keeps impeccable time. You won't be sorry purchasing this watch and you can't beat Amazon.com's price -- it's the lowest I could find -- and shipping was quite fast.
Great watch.....Great ptice February 17, 2008 Mark S. Reiff (RIVERDALE, NY United States) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I did a lot of research on this watch and realized it was what I wanted.
The saphire crystal, and kinetic features looked like a lot of watch for so little money. I have family in the jewlery business and still found Amazons price the best. The watch is beautiful and keeps perfect time. I get more compliments on this watch than my Movado. My wife seems to like the auto set when you shake the watch, better than her Rolex when it stops! Great watch, only complaint is that it was a bit chunky, at first.
